Citizen Sleeper and Finding a Home
It’s not every year that you come across a game that has the innate ability to command your thoughts for weeks, even after completion. Perhaps it is the high bar that I am using as a filter. What I seek to elucidate here is perhaps obvious, still, there are only a few games that elicit a deep emotional response from me. I can list those games on one hand. I have been playing games for twenty-three years. I have been writing about games for twelve years. It is even rarer when a game vaults itself all the way to the top of said list. This is it. This is my favorite game of all time.
Ultracore Review (Switch, PS4, PSVita)
Reverse engineered with an actual Genesis dev kit #Ultracore is truly like jumping into a time machine. There are some really advanced ideas in this game. It really seems like too much for a Genesis to handle. However, games at the end of a consoles life-cycle always seem to do the impossible.
Bubble Bobble 4 Friends - Review
The heart of what makes Bubble Bobble tick is alive and well in the latest installment. You are greeted by a smooth, Pixar like, style that brings a nice depth to the simple design of Bub and Bob. Each level (100 in total, but the back 50 are more or less remixes) taking place in a child's bedroom offers a "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" vibe to platform through.
A Chat with the Coffee Talk Team
NerdyBits EIC Caleb Sawyer got a chance to talk with some of the devs responsible for Coffee Talk. Join them as they talk about their inspirations, motivations, and of course their favorite drinks to order at a coffee shop.
Coffee Talk - Review
Coffee Talk is a charming little narrative sim from the folks at Toge Productions, an indie studio based in Indonesia. Coffee Talk feels like it was made by people who love coffee, tea, and coffee shops. The aesthetic is executed extremely well. Even the soundtrack feels like a Chilled Cow playlist. After playing for a few hours, I couldn’t help but make myself a latte, grab a notebook and a cigarette, and listen to the rain.
Creature in the Well - Review
Creature in the Well is the distillation of a dungeon crawler, and pinball. As if there were more disparate things in the gaming world. Despite having the urge to say something like, “you can count the number of games like this on one hand,” I am fully aware there aren’t any games like this title by Flight School Studio.
Nintendo Switch-uation
If PlayStation’s offering came across a bit meager for variety, the Nintendo Switch is going to look a downright barren. Nintendo has been known to stick to their guns when it comes to pricing both their systems and their accessories, making Black Friday a small event for them, rather than the doorbusting sale you will see for everyone else. You can expect to find the Switch at its normal price of $300 across the board. If you are looking for accessories there are a few dynamite deals at each big store worth looking into. GameStop is selling the Mario Odyssey and Zelda Breath of the Wild accessory bundles for $34.99, down from their usual $70. They also give you a $50 gift card for the purchase of a new switch, which would make grabbing a few games a bit easier.
